As much as I dislike their reviewers for so thoroughly panning The Mars Volta, I now mention that Pitchfork gave The Ecstatic an 8.0, which I understand is quite excellent, and awarded it their “best new music” sticker. Check it out at Grooveshark first before buying from a friendly local retailer.
This album is great. It’s seriousness comes through via a crowd-pleasing eccentricity, and each song has an irresistible hook. I’ve got it on repeat, and have rekindled the crush I had on Mos Def after his video with Alicia Keys came out in, what…2003? I feel old.
